Tucked away in the Highlands of McKamy, a quiet neighborhood just east of Frankford and Preston Roads, sits a wonderfully large home. While 6918 Blue Mesa Drive needs some simple updates, the layout of the floor plan utilizes all of its 4,326 square feet in very smart ways. On this virtual tour, we will visit your typical stops (like a large living room, spacious kitchen, four bedrooms, and four-and-a-half baths) along with some bonus spaces, great for offices and family, media, or game rooms. The options for you and your family are nothing short of limitless.
To enter from the front, you can’t miss the beautiful circle drive, lined with established trees and clean landscaping. If you’d like to access the garage, you can do so from the alley in the back. Upon entering the foyer, you can easily entertain in the large living room. The brick fireplace anchors the space and has built-in storage on both sides to showcase just a few of your favorite things. This living area has a wall of windows that open to the backyard, providing just the right amount of natural light.
Connected to the living room is a separate dining room and breakfast nook. Even thought one wall currently has built-ins that can be used for a buffet, this space can easily seat 8 or more people. Adding to the open floor plan, this space easily flows into the large kitchen, featuring two work spaces for your inner-chef, each with its own sink and stovetop. Another seating area and wet bar are just beyond the kitchen and before you get to the laundry room, pantry, and a full bath.
On the opposite side of house downstairs, you find a half bath, perfect for guests, on the way to our Primary Bedroom. This is perfect space to find some serenity. The bedroom itself has two closets and access to the back patio. The ensuite bath has a large walk-in closet, dual sinks, jetted tub and separate shower.
Upstairs, you find three more bedrooms, each with a walk-in closet. One set shares a jack-and-jill bath with separate vanities while the other has an ensuite full bath to itself. This is also the area with the most flexible potential. Several spaces up here can be used in a variety of ways. Game room, home office, library, and family/media room - that’s just the beginning of the options you can consider.
With this much space to cover, it’s important that all utilities run efficiently. Designed with this in mind, the 3 AC units are split into zones, plus 2 hot water units easily meet the demand. Outside, a 1.5year-old Kohler generator that runs on natural gas also protects you if the lights go out. Being a bit energy independent is one of this home’s great assets.
When you are ready to get out and explore the area, we suggest heading west. While many of our favorite local restaurants are along Preston Road, let’s head a bit further first to notice Bent Tree Country Club, a surprisingly secluded club on 190 acres in the middle of the city. What once was cotton fields is now one of the more private clubs in Dallas. Originally constructed in 1972, it’s undergone a full renovation in recent years. The course is moderately challenging and beautiful, using the banks of White Rock Creek to give golfers a bit of a headache on hole 15. Other member perks of BTCC include PGA pros on staff, more than 8 tennis courts, great health and wellness facilities, and tons of social activities including several charitable events.
We are so lucky to have a thriving restaurant industry in far North Dallas. Within 2 miles of home, you can find several local favorites.
- La Hacienda: Longtime favorite for mesquite grilled fajitas, a smoky charred salsa and a spicy Sundance queso. Ok, you can’t forget the margaritas either. Founder, Mariano Martinez, is actually considered the inventor of the frozen margarita.
- Whistlebritches: Chef Omar Flores built this scratch kitchen to serve the juiciest pickle brined chicken in town, bake the freshest buttermilk biscuits, and craft some of the most inventive cocktails around.
- Cadot: Jean-Marie Cadot, a native of Paris, France, grew up in a family that’s been in the restaurant, hotel and bakery business since the 1700’s. He has brought some of the best dishes from all over the world right to our doorstep.
- Nelson’s Seafood, Steak & Cocktails: Bringing specialty steaks and seafood to a full service casual dining atmosphere, Nelson’s also has a strong cocktail program based in the classics and a growing wine list.
- Scrambler Cafe: This is a breakfast must! Family owned and operated, they are bringing a modern flare to traditional American morning and mid-day treats. Depending on our cravings, we either go with their beloved Hash Stack or we behave ourselves with their Energy Bowl.
The Highlands of McKamy really gives that “settle down and get to know your neighbors” vibe. There are always kids playing in the yards and friendly neighbors walking their dogs. While situated in the City of Dallas, this home is in Plano ISD and zoned for Jackson Elementary, Frankford Middle School, Shepton High School, and Plano West Senior High. Plano ISD has an A+ rating and is consistently ranked in the Top 20 best school districts in Texas. If private education is something you are looking for, this home is conveniently located by several of our top private schools, plus preschools and colleges as well. No matter your stage or lifestyle, here you can find the best North Dallas has to offer.
If you’re still in career mode or looking at relocating here, it’s probably not news to you that DFW is THE place to be for lots of businesses, from Fortune 500 companies to some incredibly successful entrepreneurs. “Since 2010, the DFW area has become a magnet for company headquarters, with 140 headquarters relocations to the region from across the U.S. and abroad, including more than 45 companies moving from California.
